Richest man in Singapore Ng Teng Fong passed away
Singapore’s richest man and property tycoon Ng Teng Fong died early on Tuesday after suffering a cerebral haemorrhage on Jan 23, a spokeswoman for his family business said. He was 82.
According to the Straits Times, the self-made billionaire had a fall about 10 days ago and lapsed into a coma.
Ng was the head and patriarch of the unlisted Far East Organisation, one of the three largest developers in Singapore, alongside CapitaLand and City Developments.
He was also the founder of Hong Kong developer Sino Land, which is now headed by his son Robert Ng.
Forbes magazine said in September last year that Ng was Singapore’s richest man with a net worth of $8 billion.
His wealth came from over 700 hotels, commercial malls and private condominiums that his companies developed in Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as control of food and drinks company Yeo Hiap Seng.
Despite all the money, Ng had a reputation for being thrifty, leading a simple lifestyle in the same house for 30 years.
