5 reasons why Chong Wei lost to Lin Dan in Beijing Olympics Badminton Finals

Written on August 18, 2008 – 4:52 pm | by Kampung Boy |

ADVERTISMENTS

The whole Malaysia rooted on their TV set and waited eagerly for Malaysia’s very first gold medal in the Olympics when Lee Chong Wei - Lin Dan finals in Beijing Olympics 2008.

It was not mend to be for the nation as Chong Wei went down tamely to Lin Dan 12-21, 8-21 in 39 minutes to Lin Dan,

Anyhow, here are my personal views on why Chong Wei fared so poorly against Lin Dan in the finals :-

1] Nervous
From the word go, you could see that Chong Wei was nervous. He himself admitted that against Hyun-Ill he was also nervous. What more in the finals where Chong Wei carries the hope of 28 million Malaysians?

2] Pressure
I guess the pressure of becoming the first Malaysian to win the Olympic gold medal was too much for Chong Wei to handle

3] Mentally not prepared
The title says it all.

4] Too many unforced errors
Chong Wei gave away far too many cheap points to Lin Dan. Super Dan need not earned his points but was given free to him.

5] Cautious approach
Chong Wei tried to play safe most of the time by just retrieving the shots rather then dictating the match or trying to be the aggressor. By doing so against the best, there will only be one outcome, disappointment.

All in all, Chong Wei did well to enter the finals but i was a little disappointed with his display in the finals. He didn’t go down fighting but just gave way far too easily. Only a silver to show from badminton this time around.

Congratulations to Lin Dan for being the first top seed to win the Olympic Gold Medal in Badminton in Beijing Olympic Games.

Why did the Malaysian badminton Olympic contingent, including Lee Chong Wei performed badly? It is all due to bad feng shui.

When I first saw Wong Mew Choo walking into the court, I knew she will likely lose her match against Lu Lan. When our doubles pair of Koo-Tan played against the Indonesian in the Q-finals, I got a bad feeling that they are going to lose. And when Lee Chong Wei appeared for his match against Lin Dan in the Final, I was hoping that this time I would be proven wrong.
Why is this so? It is because ALL OF THEM wore complete black. That is really bad omen. Whoever designed this attire should be sacked for being totally ignorant of feng shui. Now do you understand why the Chinese team chose YELLOW and RED and not a trace of BLACK?

Wah, another reason i didn’t notice. Feng shui… ^^ Good one brother… Anymore reasons to add?

I strongly agree with the reason that was provided by Casey Sime, “Feng Shui”!!!!
I think it’s quite true. Lee Chong Wei won in SemiFinal because he came in with complete yellow attire! It is very “WONG” in Feng Shui sense.
I really don’t why he wore completely black in that most important final match??! Must be bad luck la…

Come to think again, now i think Chong Wei’s Silver Medal is nothing to shout about. Afghanistan is also ahead of Malaysia in the medal standings with one gold medal…

    Sighz…

haha…i thought YoYo’s remark was very funny -”let’s blame the black shirts..” ya..why not? if it makes Malaysian happier

Agreed with everyone who blamed the ‘black’ t-shirt. Hellooo…M’sia badminton team….
even Tiger Woods wear RED for his final day!

Seems like everybody agrees on Feng Shui is Chong Wei’s downfall to Lin Dan. So to Chong We, please wear Ang Ang (Red Red) next time ya… :)
